Compass Regional Hospice and Caroline Hospice Foundation
May 12, 2016
On May 12, 2016 Compass Regional Hospice and Caroline Hospice Foundation hosted a breakfast meeting with clergy from Caroline County. The group met at the Caroline Hospice Home in Denton.
During opening conversations Rev. Nancy Greenwell, chaplain for Compass Regional Hospice, discussed with her colleagues how her work with hospice patients supports the work of clergy of all denominations.
“We understand that for many people a terminal illness is a time when patients and their families turn to their spiritual beliefs for comfort,” says Rev. Greenwell. “We want to be a resource for ministers and lay people, who may be trusted confidantes as their parishioners make decisions about how to live their final months of life.”
Heather Guerieri, executive director for Compass Regional Hospice, provided an overview of the services available to people of all ages in Caroline County. She also explained how the Bridges pre-hospice program is a resource for people diagnosed with a life-limiting illness when they are not yet ready medically or emotionally for hospice.
Rhonda Knotts, grief services coordinator for Compass Regional Hospice, discussed the menu of services offered to people who are grieving the death of a loved one through the Hope & Healing Center. These services include individual and group counseling, support groups, and Camp New Dawn, a summer healing retreat for children, teens and families.
Heidi Plutschak, executive director for Caroline Hospice Foundation, closed the meeting by describing how the foundation raises funds that partially cover the cost of providing hospice care in Caroline County. The foundation, which owns the Caroline Hospice Home, also relies on financial support from the community to supplement the cost of maintaining this three-room residential hospice center.
